Claudia Chiappini is a contemporary mixed-media visual artist exploring intuitive process to explore materials across a wide range of media, focussing on their mutability over the passage of time. Installations of objects and video articulate the communications that seem to emanate from these artefacts, whose source materials range from jelly to water to mesh to shadow. Through careful observation of the workings of memory she develops a dialogue between material reality and imagery to create “resonating qualities of collective space”, and to challenge the perceived relationships between surfaces and objects. Chiappini’s work often questions the viewpoint of the space between the eye and the object.
